I still can't seem to laugh about it

It has happened to me. I am 32, ummm...33 now. And for the first time in my whole life I left something on my cart in the grocery store parking lot.

I have decided that I am too busy. I am too rushed. I feel like I am running, running, all the time. I know it has everything to do with getting the house on the market in time. It could not possibly have anything to do with the fact that I have 2 kids in school, soccer, band, book clubs, and a toddler running around. Nah. Not at all.

I used to look in amazement when I would see carts in the parking lot with items left on them. I would talk to myself and say things like, How could they forget that case of soda there? How could you not see that huge jug of laundry soap? In my case, how could I not remember that I placed that large jug of freshly squeezed orange juice on the bottom of the cart because my 1 yr old was determined to fit the whole pour spout in his mouth and I was tired of telling him to stop it. How could I do that? How could I forget?

The worst part....I totally didn't even realize I had left it until later that evening(mind you, I went to the store at 8am and he got home at 5pm) when my husband got home and I was telling him how I had gone over budget on the groceries. I was telling him that I was confused as to what I had gotten that made me go over....I must have forgot to add something up while I was shopping....it sorta struck me just then...I don't remember putting away my OJ....My OJ...it must still be in the van....I leave the sink, fistful of unsnapped beans in hand....to go retrieve it....yeah...not so much...It was then, at that very moment I realized that I...Me, had left something on the cart. What is happening to me?

Make me feel better and tell me that you have left something in your cart before. Even if you have to make something up.

If it makes you feel ANY better at all...not only did I drive home WITHOUT my groceries one time (we have curb pick-up) but I walked off an left either Glenn or Jesse one sitting in their baby seat ON the cart in WalMart when they were just weeks old. Rick had the other one - guess I forgot I had twins! ;-) So glad to know that you're normal, too! (not that I had doubts!)

My best friend has left her PURSE in the cart twice--once at Wal-Mart (yep, got it back) and once at Target (we went back about 7 or 8 minutes later and there it was, trapped in the cart corral).

Back in my early 20's I was going to college full time, working 2 jobs and trying to navigate a new marriage/household all at once. I remember leaving something in my cart. Of course, now that I am a few months from 33 myself, I cannot remember what the item was, but I do remember the earth shattering jolt I recieved when I remembered I forgot!! :) So, I imagine it's the hectic state of mind you're in and not your age a t play here. Of course, if you make it habit....well, I'd be nervous!! :)

When Brian left for bootcamp, I was so distraught that I left my PURSE in the shopping cart seat.

Yes, I put the cart into the cart return, and left the store. On Sundays, when I was praying he could call that day.

Three.

Times.

The Distraught Mama Gods were watching over me, I returned three times to find everything in tact.

Never happened before, hasn't happened since.

I forget stuff all the time. Stuff in the cart, stuff that the kids are supposed to have for school or sports. All the time.

Miss: OJ...kid...OJ...kid..yours was worse!

Nikki: Purse? I have yet to do that...I can imagine how that would be worrisome.

farm mom: Yeah, see..it was harder for me to realize that I didn't realize...than it was that I actually left it. Altho, some OJ sounds pretty good right now!

Gnightgirl: So, you had a good reason. I, on the other had, did not.

I can't remember leaving anything in the cart. I do remember leaving my lunch box on a counter in Maurices when I was pregnant with P and I think my purse at the catalog counter in JC Penneys during that same time period.

Yup. Once left an entire CASE of mason canning jars. Yeah, its not that BIG or anything... Duh! I wish I could say that this was the only time. I won't even mention the time I walked out of the store after paying and left my bags there. Got some very strange looks over that one...

I was going to say, I know of a few people who have left their children at the store, so OJ not so bad, the fact that you cant go tell them you left it and ask nicely for them to replace for free is the problem. Had I read this before today, I would have given you the now spoiled fresh OJ I bought Monday night, that has now died with my fridge!
