Hanging out with friends

The kids had a day off from school today. I dont know about your kids, but for mine that clearly means that a sleepover is required. So, last nite K had a friend over and they had some playing outside time, some computer time, some music time, some doing each other's hair time, some, well, okay, A LOT...of eating snacks time....

As the evening progressed and things began to wind down for the night I happened to stumble across K with an armful of stuff. What have we here?, I ask. She had a desk lamp and 3 of my duvet covers. As well as a gameboy, a couple books and an IPod. Im thinking, okaaaaay...as I look at her quite curiously. Do you mind if I use these sheets?, she says. Ummmm...no, not at all. But theyre not sheets. Theyre actually duvet covers. Did you need them to actually be sheets?, I ask. No, she says. And off she heads to her room downstairs. I was actually quite sleepy last nite, so I turned in for the nite right after I saw K carry all the stuff down to her room.

This morning, I happened to be downstairs looking for something and I decided to take a peek into her room and see what was up. I had my ideas of what I would find, but seeing it for real was just pure nostalgia. Do you guys remember doing this?

I very much remember building these types of forts with my friends and leaving them up for days at a time. Crawling into them via the secret passageway and having all kinds of cool things in there to do. Sort of like my own little place.

So, of course I had to look it over and see the craftsmanship.
Was it sturdy? Did she anchor all the corners well enough?

How many chairs did she have to use to help hold the roof up?

What kinda stuff is in here to keep you busy?

She went one step futher than I ever thought to do. She actually took the mattress off of her bed and placed it on the floor so that while sleeping in there she would actually be comfortable. What a great idea. I always just tossed and turned on the cold, hard floor. Okay, maybe I had a few blankets thrown down there to help, but I NEVER would have moved my mattress....shes a genius.

Upon seeing the cozy mattress right there just waiting for someone to flop down on it....I had to enter the fort and try it out. Fuzzy blankets and all. I wonder why she isnt using her matching pillowcases I say to myself as I lay back and take it all in.

Looking up at the fort ceiling and chuckling to myself. These were the days, I say outloud. Amazing how such a little fort can have provide such huge amounts of fun.

Boy, do I ever remember doing this at our house :) For many years I had to share a room with my sisters. Being able to make a fort with blankets and sheets felt like I was getting my own space. Although from about 6th grade on I had my own room.

Well, if you ask me, K. wasn't using matching pillowcases because her MOM doesn't use matching pillowcases. And you can tease me about this ALL YOU WANT, but they are IMPORTANT, I'm telling you, and you will sleep much better at night once you mend your mismatched ways.

I loved seeing one of K's race numbers pinned up on her wall. Go K!! :-)

Oh yeah - tell her I just finished "Twilight", too. :-)

Hm. Maybe I can talk Clint into this. Or maybe I'll just surprise him, and turn the entire living room into a fort.

Seriously, I want to mattress my entire living room floor. How cool would that be? Why haven't interior decorators thought of this?

I laughed out loud when I saw this! If you go into MY daughter's room right now there is a very similar fort. She has had it up for days now and sits in there to read and watch movies. She has separate rooms within the fort, too. Hours and hours of entertainment for her.

My kids take over the basement with a huge fort the minute school lets out for summer. About a week before school starts I make them take it down (so they can get re-adjusted to their beds). They love it, camping in all summer.
Your daughters is perfect with all the books and reading light.

lisa s: I bet a fort was a cool way to get your own space....dd you put tape down on the floor, too?

Danni: Thanks for giving me permission to tease you...not that I really needed it, but its nice to know that I have it. And Im pretty sure that I asked for your help in the pillowcase matching dept and my request was denied. Oh...I told K that you finished the book and she was very excited and wanted to know if you are done with the second one know...it is 3 days later, she says.

gnightgirl: Oooohhhhh...a living room fort...do you remember when we did that on Washington street and laid all the pillows...your huge king size pillows... all on the fort floor???? That was amazing.

j.j.: That G...she is a genius, too. Separate rooms.....does she have a matching purse to take into every room, too?

Angie: We as in, we, like you and I? Or we, as in we, like you and yours?

sugarcreekstuff: All summer, huh? Thats a great idea. I will have to suggest that.

lady l: Thanks for stopping by. She was pretty proud of her fort...I think she had a great time putting it up. too.

Just to set the record straight: your request for assistance on the matching pillowcases was in no way denied. I gave it willingly, in fact, however, for some reason you didn't like my suggestion of the matching GNOME pillowcases (that I know for a fact you own) and chose to ignore me. Oh well, I'm used to it.

Um, regarding book 2, please tell Kaylin that I'm, like, #59 of 167 on the list for the book from the library. So, it may be a while. But she'll be the first to know when I have read it. :-)

Well. Ya gotta love public libraries. Please inform my friend, K, that I just picked up my copy of New Moon. Apparently, even though I was approximately #59 in line for the book, they have a BOATLOAD of copies, so my turn is already here!
Sorry, Marc...looks like your book falls to the bottom for a bit. :-)
