What I get for wildlife around here

We were able to finish moving the mulch pile yesterday.

Whilst doin
g so we were also able to embark upon the great wildlife that I get to see "in town". I look forward to the day when I get to move to MY farmhouse so that I can have problems like this and this and this.

This little guy(or gal) started out here. In the garage, on one of our lawn chairs.

Well, that just wouldnt do. So, we had to move him out to the rosebush.

Then we saw him again. I guess it may have been another guy all together. Im not sure. This is my first time seeing ones this grayish-brown color. All the ones I have seen have always been bright green.

G was very intrigued by the little guy. He wanted to hold him so badly. But the poor guy just didnt want to go on G's hand.

Im not sure I can blame him really. You never know when a 2 yr old may suddenly change his mind and decide hes done playing bug games. Then said bug ends up either squished or relocated in a moments notice.

Then, in amongst my very large woodpile there was this furry little friend. Im pretty sure there is more than one. I am also pretty sure that they WILL find a way into my house. They always do. But they are cute.

We also have a toad family living right outside the basement window. Or is it a frog? I cant know. We have 2 larger ones and then several little baby ones. And even little, itty, bitty baby ones.

Ha,ha! Great post...that is one magnificent preying mantis!! or is it praying mantis? Clicking on the picture made me aware of just how dang BIG this guy (or gal) was. I just love them! Wish I saw more of them around here.

Nice to know the mouse I packed for you made it to your house safely.

Nice pictures of the bug and the mouse. I wouldn't trust a toddler with my life either. I can remember my kids playing with some frogs at that age and they did not survive.

I love the pic of the mantis('s??) wings.
That is a toad, a cute one at that. We used to have tons of toads, then I got chickens.

That was thoughtful of Danni to send that mouse home with you. I can ship you a possum anytime, just say the word.

"they sure are cute"....okay. Who are you and what have you done with my friend?

I love all those critters! Toads especially. Your praying mantis is about ready to lay her eggs. Very cool to see babies in the spring.

Looks to me that you have enough critters to qualify as a free-range farm already. All you need to do is put up a tiny red barn and a small fence.
I see you are still working that poor boy. I can't believe that you made him move that whole pile.
Is that the same mouse that you took to Danni's?

Danni: That was very sweet of you to pack one of your critters for me to take home. What a true friend you are.

country girl: Right? I could so understand the praying mantis' point of view.

sugarcreekstuff: Such a good friend you are that you would send me an opossum. But really, I didnt even HAVE to ask Danni...she just KNEW that I would like that little mouse.

farm mom: Yoo hoo....Annnnnggg, over here...look at all thses little mices...arent they sweet?

cee cee: We were wondering if she was carrying a load of babies...Ill have to look for all the little bitty ones come spring.

grey wolf: That mouse that I took to Danni's got cornered and put in a bowl and driven far, far away....wasnt it so nice of her to send another home with me? As far as working G goes....I gotta get that boy ready for REAL farm work..who do you think is gonna be my egg collector and chicken feeder and stall mucker.....and.. and...
