Accidents that can be avoided

A few weeks ago there was an accident down at the end of our drive. In fact, theres still a few remnants left over from that in our ditch.
It was in the middle of the night when it happened and the driver was intoxicated. He ran off the road and damaged the culvert that runs under our drive and he tore our mailbox right out of the the concrete that it was set in. The last I heard he is sitting in jail.

In the meantime, we had to replace our mailbox with this pretty new green one.
And the damage done to the culvert was so extensive that the whole thing had to be replaced.
And then just the other day I drove home to discover this big truck parked in front of my drive.
Normally, this wouldnt really be an issue except I had just gone and loaded my van up with all these groceries.
What to do? I couldnt get the van up the drive because they were pouring fresh, hot asphalt. And if I couldnt get the van up there then that meant that I couldnt walk over it either....
I need to be up there where the house is.
This drive is normally how that happens.
Looks like were gonna be hiking the groceries up there by hand through the ditch and over the berm....And by we, that really means S.
I set all the bags out for him at the best spot we could find and then he climbed up the berm with them and then walked to the house.
After a few hours, we were left with this newly patched drive.
And now we have this shiny new culvert to replace the one that was no longer functional.
A lot of work had to be done by county workers to remedy what was caused by a drunk driver. Something that could have been totally avoided if one man had made a better choice. Im just very thankful that there werent any injuries.

And I can hope that the dozen farm fresh eggs that I sent home with each of those 5 county workers helped them leave my farm a little bit happier than when they first arrived.

Wow. It makes you thankful that no one in your family was pulling into your drive at the time the drunk driver was losing control of his vehicle. I hope the courts will force him to pay for your damages. You should contact the district attorney's office to make sure the judge rules for judgment against him to pay you, personally, for your expenses. You sending the workers away with fresh eggs was so nice. Those kind of little gestures sure can make the difference in our day. And you place is GORGEOUS!

You didn't mention that after I carried them into the house, the workers let you into the driveway...

Oh yeah...I did forget to mention that part...as S was hauling up the last of the bags the workers came over to my van and said that we could pull through at that point...so I drove past him in the van as he was walking up to the house with the last bags of groceries. Some timing huh?

Wow, Sure glad everything is okay. Poor "S" having to carry all those heavy bags! I think the driver should be made to pay for the damages.

I'm thankful it was nothing more than property damage, too. That could have ended much more sadly. I pray he learned something from that.

I laughed right out loud when I read Shawn's comment! Hahahaha! Doesn't it always seem to work out that way? Poor Shawn!

Oh, and I meant to mention how sweet it was of you to send the workers home with farm fresh eggs! I bet they were tickled about that.

Geez Louise that's crazy! I have to admit that I chuckled slightly when I read the part about Shawn carrying all those groceries and you driving by him on the way in the driveway. You are sooo kind to give those workers farm-fresh eggs!

I like you got a new drain pipe that works now. Love the green mailbox & all the photos. I can bet the workers loved the farm fresh eggs. And poor S.
